Hagart (Hogarth)
Family

James HAGGART was a shoemaker living in Stevenston, Ayrshire, Scotland in the mid 18th Century. He is the first known member of the family. Several of his descendants were shipmasters or fishermen in Stevenston and Ardrossan. All the families in this area appear eventually to have used the surname HOGARTH.

Hugh Hagart, youngest son of James, moved to Port Glasgow at the beginning of the 19th Century and his family then consistently used the name HAGART. Several members of the family lived and worked in South Africa in the twentieth century.

An apparently unrelated family of Hagarts comes from Perthshire and Edinburgh.
