The earliest known person is John TOWNSEND,
22 June 1767 to 11 September 1834 from Plaistow, Essex, U.K. He married Judith PAGE at Sunbury on Thames in 1798.
One of his sons, George, shown left, took a branch of the family to Fordham, Cambridgeshire.

George's eldest son, George, was a County Councillor and Justice of the Peace living in Fordham and later Exning near Newmarket .

Another son, Charles, (middle left), established Charles Townsend Nurseries, a very successful Seed Merchant business (below left) in Fordham.

Other branches of the family were established in Littleport, Cambridgeshire and Chard, Somerset.
The last person in these branches with this surname died in 1991.
